NCH Software is an Australian software company founded in 1993 in Canberra, Australia. The Colorado office was started in April 2008 due to the large U.S. customer base.^[1] NCH Software primarily sells to individuals via its website.

Software products[edit]

NCH Software provides software programs for audio, video, business, dictation and transcription, graphics, telephony and other utilities. On September 26, 2014, cnet.com showed their most-frequently downloaded program from NCH Software was WavePad Sound Editor Masters Edition.^[2]

VideoPad is a video editing application developed by NCH Software for the home and professional market.^[3][4][5] It is part of a suite that integrates with other software created by NCH Software. This other software includes WavePad, a sound-editing program;^[6] MixPad, a Sound-Mixing Program;^[1] PhotoPad, a Photo and Image editor;^[7]Prism a Video Format Converter;^[8]Express Burn, Disc Burning Software; Switch, an Audio Format Converter and Debut, a Screen Recorder and Video Capture Software.

Controversy[edit]

During 2013, some computer security companies categorized NCH software as bloatware because it bundled the Google Toolbar. In July 2015, NCH Software announced^[9][10] it was no longer bundling the Google toolbar. As of November 30, 2015, NCH Software is marked clean by all major antivirus products.^[11][12][13]

We recently received an email query regarding software that can be used on Mac OS X that would playback dvf format (a Sony proprietary format for compressed voice files) audio files. Apparently, originally used to record a meeting’s conversation. The user received dvf audio files for reference that could not natively be played on any applications that shipped with Mac OS X and befuddled, in our quest to assist, we came across this freeware from, Australian-based, NCH Swift Sound.

Among the plethora of open audio formats currently in use — wav, mp3, ogg, gsm, dct, flac, au, aiff, vox and raw; and proprietary audio formats — wma, aac, atrac (.wav), ra, ram, dss, msv and dvf; Express Scribe supports most of them.

Step 1: Gather information for each user.

Each user has a set of credentials which will be needed to configure each phone. For each phone that you are configuring, obtain the following:

• SIP Address (Address of Record)
• SIP Password
• Auth Username
• Username
• Domain
• Outbound Proxy

You can find this information in the user detail pages under the Users tab in the Phone Configuration section.

Step 2: Configure your Express Talk software settings.

Access the software settings. With your mouse, click the 'Options' button.

Select the "Lines" tab.

Under the Lines tab, enter the following information from Step 1 above:

Line Settings

• Full 'Friendly' Display Name > Whatever you would like.
• Server (SIP Proxy or Virtual PBX) > Domain
• SIP Number (or Username) > Username
• Password > SIP Password

Click on 'Advanced Line Settings (Modified)'

Under 'Outbound Server' choose 'Use the specified server as the outbound server' option.
If you have connection problems, choose 'Use a different outbound server' and put 'sip.onsip.com' in the 'Outbound Server' field.

Under 'Authentication User Name' choose 'Use a different username just for authentication.' In the blank put in your Auth Username from Step #1:
Auth ID:> Auth Username

Step 3. Confirm that you have disabled all Network Address Translation (NAT) settings on the phone.

We handle all NAT related issues. So, make sure to turn off any NAT settings on the phone in order for your phone to communicate properly with our servers.

To do so, under the Network tab, enter the following:

Allow Incoming Calls and Audio through into Private Networks

• NO Stun Server is enabled. 'Use STUN servers to find external IP Address and Port' is NOT checked.

Step 4. Confirm that your phone is registered.

In the User portal, click on the "Users" tab. You will see a green "online" notation next to each user with a registered phone.

You should now be able to place and receive calls.
